Registration

Both, the singer as well as the pianist, have to submit the following documents and materials: 

  • the registration form (PDF can be downloaded here), fully completed and signed
  • curriculum vitae with particulars of general education and teachers, previous performances / engagements, awards and prizes, etc.
  • clearly identified recent photograph, suitable for reproduction in the programme (i.e. high resolution photo 300 dpi, jpg or tif) 
  • copy/scan of an official document (identity card / passport) confirming the candidate’s nationality, date of birth and place of birth
  • listing of the competition repertoire (with exact specification of the length of each song); the submitted repertoire is binding and cannot subsequently be altered
  • uncut video recording of at least 3 »Lieder« recorded during the 12 months prior to the registration (Online link, e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, Cloud or similar, also as private link with password; DVD or Video CD); date and place of the recording of each individual piece must be provided; the recorded songs need not to correspond to the competition repertoire
  • affirmation of the correctness and authenticity of the video recording
  • filled in release form authorizing the IHWA to reproduce performance and physical likeness at the International Art Song Competition Stuttgart 2020
  • [a document verifying that the registration fee has been transferred]: Due to the exceptional situation we do NOT charge a registration fee at the moment. We reserve the right to charge it later, as soon as it is clear that the competition can definitely take place.

Due to the exceptional situation we do NOT charge a registration fee at the moment. We reserve the right to charge it later, as soon as it is clear that the competition can definitely take place.


Applications that arrive after the closing date, or that do not contain all the required material, will not be considered by the Committee. All documents will be treated as strictly confidential. 


After receipt of payment the candidates will receive a confirmation of participation with which the application gains legal validity. Candidates coming from countries where a bank transfer is not possible due to exchange control legislation may pay the registration fee at their arrival in Stuttgart in the Competition Office. The registration fee will not be refunded. The documents will not be returned or refunded.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2020

  • three songs of the participants choice will be performed from the submitted repertoire
  • the programme must not exceed 15 minutes in duration

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2020

  • five songs will be performed from the submitted repertoire; two songs will be chosen by the jury and three by the candidates, whereof one has to be one of the new Hölderlin-settings by Stefan Heucke or Hauke Behreide; 
  • the programme must not exceed 20 minutes in duration 
  • the programme of the 2nd round will be determined after the end of the 1st round

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2020

Concert Hall, State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart

 

  • eight songs will be performed from the submitted repertoire, four chosen by the jury and four by the candidates
  • the programme must not exceed 30 minutes in duration
  • the programme of the 3rd round will be determined after the end of the 2nd round

 

The prizewinners will be announced publically after the end of the final round. 

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2020

Concert Hall, State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart

Representatives of radio and television stations, artist managements, festivals and concert promotion agencies will be invited to the competition – particularly to the finals on October 3 and the prizewinners' concert on October 4, 2020.
