Geboren in Rhodesien, kam Graham Johnson 1967 nach London, um dort an der Royal Academy of Music bei Gerald Moore und Geoffrey Parsons zu studieren. Heute ist er einer der renommiertesten und erfolgreichsten Liedbegleiter unserer Zeit, der unzähligen namhaften Sängerinnen und Sängern als Klavierpartner zur Seite stand und steht. Zudem ist er für seine hervorragenden Programmerläuterungen sowie als Autor musikwissenschaftlicher Bücher bekannt. Eine besonders enge Zusammenarbeit verbindet ihn mit der Londoner Wigmore Hall, wo er seit vielen Jahren Juryvorsitzender des Wigmore-Hall-Liedwettbewerbs ist. Der Pianist lehrt als Professor für Liedgestaltung an der Guildhall School of Music. 1994 wurde er zum Officer of the Order of the British Empire ernannt, 2002 wurde er von der französischen Regierung zum Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres ernannt, seit 2010 ist er Ehrenmitglied der Royal Philharmonic Society in London. Im September 2014 ist Graham Johnsons dreibändiges und mehrere tausend Seiten umfassendes Werk über das Liedschaffen von Franz Schubert erschienen: »Franz Schubert – The Complete Songs«. Nicht zuletzt dafür wurde er 2014 mit der Hugo-Wolf-Medaille der Internationalen Hugo-Wolf-Akademie geehrt.

  • five songs will be performed from the submitted repertoire; two songs will be chosen by the jury and three by the candidates, whereof one has to be one of the new Hölderlin-settings by Stefan Heucke or Hauke Behreide; 
  • the programme must not exceed 20 minutes in duration 
  • the programme of the 2nd round will be determined after the end of the 1st round
03.10.2020 (final round)

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2020

Concert Hall, State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart

 

  • eight songs will be performed from the submitted repertoire, four chosen by the jury and four by the candidates
  • the programme must not exceed 30 minutes in duration
  • the programme of the 3rd round will be determined after the end of the 2nd round

 

The prizewinners will be announced publically after the end of the final round.

Representatives of radio and television stations, artist managements, festivals and concert promotion agencies will be invited to the competition – particularly to the finals on October 3 and the prizewinners' concert on October 4, 2020.
